What's Going on Now

Your Neighborhood is Our Business.

We are proud to announce some exciting news from the 2009 New York Press Association Better Newspaper Contest: our weekly newspapers and political newspapers won 25 awards. Manhattan Media placed third in all of NY State in number of editorial awards.

The Capitol, our youngest paper, won in five categories including Best Front Page (Kudos to Art Director Mitch Hoffman!), Best Coverage of Local Government and reporter Andrew Hawkins won first place for Coverage of Election-Politics. Editor Isaac Dovere led his team to a total of 10 awards, with City Hall winning five more, including first
place for Coverage of Local Government.

The New York Press, led by editor Jerry Portwood, also captured six awards, including Coverage of the Arts (the Film Issue) and Feature Story and Picture Story. Editor Charlotte Eichna and Our Town won awards for Coverage of Election-Politics (the Surrogate Court race) and Feature Story and the West Side Spirit won an award for Graphic Illustration.

Andrew Schwartz, our longtime Photo Editor, won five photography awards including Best Sports Action Photo and three awards in the Best Feature Photo category.
